Ein Veranstaltungs- und Ausstellungsprogramm zu aktuellen Tendenzen im Design, speziell im Interior Design mit Ausstellungen in Kölner Showrooms, Galerien, Einrichtungshäusern, Kulturinstituten, Museen und Hochschulen.
Im Januar 2011 ist es wieder soweit: vom 17. bis 23. Januar findet in Köln die größte deutsche Designveranstaltung statt. Die PASSAGEN eröffnen als Plattform für aktuelle Strömungen und Trends des Designs, des Wohnens und des Lifestyles die internationale Designsaison: Dann wird Köln wieder eine Woche Treffpunkt der internationalen Designszene und zum „Mekka“ der Design-Hungrigen und Designtouristen.
Über 190 Shows nationaler und internationaler Designer und Hersteller entlang eines dicht gestaffelten Parcours durch das Kölner Stadtgebiet umfasst das Programm mittlerweile: ein wahres Who is Who der Design-Szene. Geboten werden spannende Eindrücke, brandneue Entwürfe, Designer „zum Anfassen“, Inspirationen und Einrichtungsideen, Trends und Tendenzen auf höchstem Niveau: Alles dreht sich um einhundert Prozent Design. Im Vordergrund stehen atmosphärische Inszenierungen, präsentiert sowohl von hochkarätigen High-End-Herstellern als auch von jungen Netzwerken mit experimentellen Konzepten im Spannungsfeld von Design und Architektur.
Dabei bestimmen neben Möbeln auch die Themen Accessoires, Licht, Materialien und eine Happening-Struktur von Vernissagen und Veranstaltungen das Programm, das durch Shows internationaler Kulturinstitute und Museen bereichert wird. Der Schwerpunkt „Küchen“ wird 2011 weiter ausgebaut. In Zusammenarbeit mit Hochschulen, Museen und Kulturinstituten sowie Köchen, Designern und Herstellern wird erstmals die kulturelle Dimension des Themas ins rechte Licht gerückt.
Über 160.000 Besucher durchwandern die zumeist in der Kölner Innenstadt gelegenen Salons, Showrooms, Einrichtungshäuser, Galerien und temporären Design-Hotspots. Hier mischt sich das designinteressierte breite Publikum mit dem Fachpublikum, das insbesondere aus Architekten, Innenarchitekten, Designern und Herstellern besteht, mit Vertretern der internationalen Presse und anderen Multiplikatoren. Und natürlich ist die ganze kreative Szene vertreten und ansprechbar, seien es „Designer-Ikonen“, Hersteller, junge Designer und Design-Talente sowie Vertreter der einschlägigen Hochschulen.
Die „Designers Fair“, die erfolgreiche Messe für junge internationale Designer, findet 2011 im Rahmen der PASSAGENzum dritten Mal statt. Der Design Parcours Ehrenfeld, der sich in den letzten Jahren stetig weiterentwickelt hat und seit 2010 im Design Quartier Ehrenfeld verankert ist, geht 2011 in die 4. Runde.
Insgesamt bieten die PASSAGEN spannende Eindrücke, Inspirationen und atmosphärische Inszenierungen im Mix hochkarätiger internationaler High-End-Hersteller und Designer sowie junger Netzwerke und experimenteller Konzepte im Spannungsfeld von Design, Architektur und Kunst.
PASSAGEN sind die Plattform für Trendsetter des internationalen Designs: Welche Tür man auch öffnet, die einer Galerie, eines Museums, eines Möbelgeschäfts, eines Kulturinstituts: Hier trifft man die Designer Live, hier gibt sich die Szene die Klinke in die Hand, hier werden Kontakte geknüpft zwischen Herstellern und jungen Talenten, Solitären und Architekten, Multiplikatoren und Händlern.
Für viele Newcomer sind die PASSAGEN das Sprungbrett und für viele Klassiker sind sie ein „Jungbrunnen“. Der seit einigen Jahren anhaltende, von den PASSAGEN verursachte Trend zu immer mehr nicht nur temporären, sondern auch permanenten hochkarätigen Showrooms festigt darüber hinaus den Ruf Kölns als internationale Designstadt.
Manche PASSAGEN-Shows sind regelrecht Kult geworden. Dazu gehören die Shows unterschiedlicher „A&W Designer des Jahres“ wie die von FRONT im Gerling Quartier 2010, die Inszenierung von Gaetano Pesce in der Christuskirche 2006, die sagenhafte Präsenz von Cappelliniim Eckigen Rundbau 2001 – einer riesigen Industriebrache in Deutz, 1998 die Show „Design with a French Twist“ für eine (ganze) Nacht im Jugendstil-Neptunbad des französischen Designpromoters VIA, die legendären Lichtinszenierungen von Ingo Maurer in der Deutzer Brücke und in der Päckchenhalle (heute Design Post).
Zu den PASSAGEN erscheint ein Katalog, der 1:1 Online eingespielt wird.
Die PASSAGEN wurden 1990 von Sabine Voggenreiter gegründet und finden 2011 zum 22. Mal statt.

A programme of events and exhibitions covering the latest trends in design, with a special focus on interior design, which includes exhibitions in showrooms, galleries, furniture stores, cultural institutes, museums and universities in Cologne.
In January 2011 it will be that time once again: from 17 to 23 January, Cologne will be playing host to Germany’s largest design event. PASSAGEN, a platform for the latest trends in design, living and lifestyle, will be kicking off the international design season, as for one week, Cologne will once again be a meeting place for the international design scene and a “Mecca” for design enthusiasts and design tourists.
The event has grown to encompass more than 190 shows from national and international designers and manufacturers who will be showing their stuff along a route with a wealth of happenings, offering a true who’s who of the design scene. Exciting impressions, brand-new designs, the designers themselves up close and in person, inspirations, decorating ideas, trends and tendencies will be on show, and the standards will be high: the focus is on the very best in design. Atmospheric depictions will be at the forefront, presented by top-notch high-end manufacturers and by young networks with experimental concepts in the exciting interface between design and architecture.
In addition to furniture, the fields of accessories, lighting, materials and an event programme boasting vernissages and other happenings, the PASSAGEN programme will also be enriched by cultural shows organised by international cultural institutes and museums. The focus on “kitchens” will be expanded in 2011, and in cooperation with universities, museums, cultural institutes, cooks, designers and manufacturers, the cultural dimensions of this theme will be showcased for the first time.
More than 160,000 people will be wandering through the salons, showrooms, furniture stores, galleries and impromptu design hotspots that will be concentrated in the centre of Cologne. Here, members of the broader public with an interest in design will be mixing with the professionals, and especially with architects, interior designers, designers and manufacturers, with representatives of the international press and other multipliers also on hand. And, naturally, the entire creative scene will be present and open to questions and enquiries, be they “design icons”, manufacturers, young designers and design talents or representatives of prominent universities.
“Designers Fair”, the successful fair for young international designers, will be taking place for the third time as part of PASSAGEN in 2011. Design Parcours Ehrenfeld, which has continued to develop over the past few years and has been anchored in Design Quartier Ehrenfeld since 2010, will be taking place for the fourth time in 2011.
PASSAGEN offers exciting impressions, inspirations and atmospheric depictions through a mix of high-calibre international high-end manufacturers and designers, young networks and experimental concepts in the exciting interface between design, architecture and art. Participants come from Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, Canada, England, Spain, Germany, France, Brazil, Japan, Switzerland and Turkey.
PASSAGEN is the platform for the trendsetters of international design. No matter what door you open, be it to a gallery, museum, furniture store or cultural institute, you will encounter designers live and in person. This is where the design scene comes together, establishing contacts between manufacturers and up-and-coming young talents, solo artists and architects, multipliers and dealers.
For many newcomers, PASSAGEN is their springboard to success, while many established designers have found it to be a “fountain of youth”. The trend which PASSAGEN launched years ago, towards an ever increasing number of high quality showrooms of both a permanent and temporary nature, has also done much to cement Cologne's reputation as an international design centre.
Some of the PASSAGEN shows have become cult favourites. These include the shows by various “A&W Designers of the Year”, including that by FRONT in the Gerling Quartier in 2010, the show by Gaetano Pesce in the Christuskirche Church in 2006, the legendary presence of Cappellini in the Eckigen Rundbau, a giant industrial wasteland in Deutz, in 2001, the “Design With a French Twist” show for an entire night in the art nouveau Neptunbad from the French design promoters VIA in 1998, and the legendary light shows by Ingo Maurer at the Deutzer Brücke Bridge and in the Päckchenhalle Hall (since rechristened Design Post).

PASSAGEN was established in 1990 by Sabine Voggenreiter, and will be taking place for the 22nd time in 2011.
