Ein Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsprogramm zu aktuellen Tendenzen im Design, speziell im Interior Design. Aussteller sind Institutionen und Museen, darunter das Museum Ludwig und das Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Hochschulen, Designbüros, Initiativen, Showrooms, Galerien, Netzwerke, Einrichtungshäuser und internationale Hersteller.
Die PASSAGEN 2010, frisch wie nie und fest im Kulturkontext verankert, eröffnen die internationale Designsaison mit Projekten und Inszenierungen der Crème de la Crème der internationalen Designerszene und entfalten am Design-Standort Köln wieder die ganze Power ihrer Aktivisten, seien es klassische Solitäre oder junge Netzwerke, Hochschulen, Newcomer, Institutionen, Architekten, Medien oder Vermittler: Sie alle residieren für eine Woche Tür an Tür, alle Perlen dicht aufgefädelt am Parcours der Kölner Innenstadt sowie neuerdings der Quartiere Ehrenfeld und Mülheim.
PASSAGEN 2010 sind ein Design-Symposion, das das Thema „Kontext:Design“ behandelt: Es präsentiert das Thema Design live und 1:1 im Zusammenspiel mit Architektur, es thematisiert die wechselseitigen Wirkungen von Kunst und Design, wie die Ausstellung von Franz West im Museum Ludwig, dem wir das diesjährige PASSAGEN-Cover verdanken. Es nimmt gesellschaftliche Ansprüche an Design auf, darunter insbesondere die Themen Nachhaltigkeit und Ökologie sowie Urbanismus und Ästhetik und es bespielt das Thema Pop-Kultur / Design-Kultur mit einem eigenen Musikprogramm, der Cologne Music Week. Auch das Verhältnis von Design und politischer Arbeit, siehe das Projekt in der DQE-Halle in Ehrenfeld, rückt aktuell in den Vordergrund. Das neue Projekt „Design Quartier Ehrenfeld“, ein Entwicklungsprojekt der Europäischen Union, stärkt den innovativen Charakter der internationalen Designstadt Köln. Dafür steht auch wieder das Programm des 3. Design Parcours Ehrenfeld und die zweite Ausgabe der überaus erfolgreich gestarteten und nun erweiterten neuen Messe mit mehr als 60 internationalen jungen Designern und Projekten DESIGNERS FAIR. Hier, wie an vielen anderen Locations, werden am Montag, den 18.1.2010, die PASSAGEN mit den Previews eröffnet.
Rund 190 Shows internationaler Designer und Hersteller gilt es entlang eines dicht gestaffelten Parcours durch das Kölner Stadtgebiet zu entdecken: Der Rheinauhafen: Exklusive Events wie der deutsch-türkische Architekturdialog mit Murat Tabanlioglu aus Istanbul und die Premiere der neuen Kollektion „Freedom“ von Ross Lovegrove für VitrA Bad oder das Pre-Opening des neuen Occhio Stores von Axelmeiselicht machen ihn wieder zum absoluten „Must“ der Design-Szene. Im Kranhaus 1 präsentiert DREIPUNKT im eigenen Showroom die ALCANTARA Collection für DREIPUNKT und Neuheiten von bordbar, während die Planer von bauraum ihre Partner und die neue Leuchte von buschfeld. vorstellen. Dabei sind auch das fest etablierte Forum für Architektur, Technik und Design KAP FORUM, die Galerie Werft 11 und Kontor 19. Ebenfalls am Rhein gelegen, Kunsthaus Rhenania, das die Ausstellung „Favela Ikea“ zeigt. Darüber hinaus in der Südstadt: Markanto in Zusammenarbeit mit Fritz Hansen mit Designklassikern von Poul Kjærholm, gabrielle ammann // gallery mit der Ausstellung „Transsakrales“ von Florian Borkenhagen, Skulpturen von Michael Growe im Atelier Burat, desiary.de, formformsuche.de mit den Filzhockern „Stuben-Hocker“ und die TapentenAgentur. Weiter südlich in Bayenthal, im Hof 242, stellen Raumausstattung Berner, Raumkultur, Lüghausen, EINWANDFREI, Bembè Parkett und Step High Treppenstudio Köln aus.
Die City. In unmittelbarer Nähe des Museum Ludwig präsentiert sich die kunstbar im neuen Design von Ingo Stein und stellt die erste Kollektion des jungen Designlabels SUPERGRAU vor, im Stapelhaus ist algerisches Design und Kunsthandwerk ausgestellt, im Museumsshop des Wallraf-Richartz-Museums & Fondation Corboud wird die CEDON Kollektion gezeigt, Fashion und Interior Design von Maus und Bergerland ist bei Lasik Point zu entdecken, J.H. Becker präsentiert die Kristallkollektion von Philippe Starck für Baccarat und Interior Köln die neuen Schranksysteme von Cabinet. Rund um den Neumarkt: das Designduo UrbanRooms aus Brüssel im Belgischen Haus, casa dolce casa sowie IB Möbelwerkstätten, SOVET ITALIA und FEG bei Chrisbel, less 'n' more sowie lumini im Beleuchtungshaus SCHIFFGEN, „Kartell’s Latest“ im Kartell Flagship Store, der KISDShop, Keramik Skulpturen bei APROPOS THE CONCEPT STORE GALLERY sowie die Köln Edition des „kollektiven“ Bücherschranks „Bokx“. Die Temporary Gallery Cologne zeigt mit „Walls Rooms Illusions“ eine Ausstellung, die die Schnittstellen von Kunst und Design thematisiert.
Im Belgischen Viertel konzentrieren sich wieder viele einzelne Ausstellungen in atmosphärisch attraktiven Locations: u.a. von MAGAZIN.COM zusammen mit muuto, GRONICLES#1 von Jack Brandsma, Lambert Kamps und Marcus Petstra, von MOM in der Galerie Fiebach & Minninger, von STAINLESSLY und imfeldcubi bei schöne neue welt, von Royal Family im Café Hallmackenreuther, von Noa Haim in der Galerie Kaya Wilbrandt, von CERION in der Galerie 2 Plus, von Sawadedesign bei Trippen und von Ventura im eigenen Flagshipstore. Die StadtRevue feiert den Release des Titels Raum 5 mit einer Installation der KOMMA4 Architekten. Am Friesenplatz zeigt Thomas Reichel sein patentiertes Regalsystem „Cubit“ und in unmittelbarer Nähe präsentiert Peristyle Gartenskulpturen sowie Bräuninger Metalldesign neue Entwürfe. In den Spichern Höfen: Tobias Grau, Boffi mit Sub-Zero, Vola zusammen mit Casaceramica, Brix bei Ultramarin und ID MODUS. In direkter Nähe des Rudolfplatzes präsentiert Klaus Strippel sein Projekt „universal design cologne – schön(&)praktisch“ in der Galerie Schmidt & Handrup, stellt llot llov erstmals Wandskulpturen in der Galerie Martin Glanz Mobiliar vor, präsentiert Wohnkultur66 Entwürfe von Finn Juhl im Hotel Chelsea und zeigt das studioWOW Produkte von mehr als 20 Designern.
An der „Möbelmeile Ring“ zeigen Poliform bei die Einrichter.home, Molteni & C bei Pfannes & Virnich sowie Who’s perfect ? Köln und Lightnet – Architectural Lighting im eigenen Store Neuheiten. Ebenfalls an den Ringen: Natuzzi, COR interlübke mit conmoto und draenert und sixeight bei Bartels Kinderwelt. Das traditionsreiche Kölner Einrichtungshaus pesch wohnen präsentiert sich als Baustelle. In unmittelbarer Nähe der Ringe sind zu sehen: das Auktionshaus W.G. HERR, die Galerie Gabriele Heidtmann mit Prototypen des Berliner Designbüros Coordination, im neu eröffneten Flagship Store von sonoro audio das von der Künstlerin Ricarda Kirch gestaltete Radio „elements“, das Einrichtungshaus Marktex und adhoc effekt. Stadtauswärts: Biomöbel Genske präsentiert erneut den preisgekrönten österreichischen Hersteller TEAM 7, vianden die Einrichtung die Kollektionen von schönbuch und Parkett Dietrich die Möbelentwürfe des britischen Designers John Alfredo Harris.
Rechtsrheinisch zieht die Design Post sowie neue Aussteller in Köln-Mülheim viele Besucher an: Präsentiert wird eine Ausstellung in Zusammenarbeit mit der ecosign im Luxury FairCraft®Showroom und drei Shows von Planern, Einrichtern und Lichtexperten in den Seiler Höfen: ege GmbH, neueRäume und WEVER & DUCRÈ®/DARK und LIMIS beyond light.
Die neue Messe DESIGNERS FAIR knüpft an ihren Erfolg von 2009 an und präsentiert sich 2010 erneut im RheinTriadem mit über 65 Ausstellern der jungen internationalen Design-Szene. Neu in der DESIGNERS FAIR sind die concept rooms, die insbesondere Designnetzwerken als neues Ausstellungsformat dienen. Ebenfalls im zweiten Jahr dabei: das Projekt „Highway“: Das sind nicht nur die Design und Konzept Shops MyZoo und 22birds, sondern ein ganzer Straßenzug, bespielt mit Ausstellungen, Installationen und Aktionen. Der Design Parcours Ehrenfeld hat sich mit seiner 3. Ausgabe gemausert. Zwei „Brennpunkte“ haben sich mittlerweile etabliert: Einerseits das ehemalige Industrieareal Heliosstraße/Lichtstraße mit Events in der neuen Ausstellungshalle des Design Quartier Ehrenfeld, Installationen in der Factory/Meiré und Meiré, Ausstellungen im Vulkangelände bei dyson, Material ConneXion und eco, bei Jack in the Box und in der ecosign/Akademie für Gestaltung sowie Workshops von JAS e.V.; andererseits das neue Gründerviertel um die Körnerstraße mit zahlreichen Ausstellungen junger Labels und Start Ups, Designbüros, Ateliers, Studios u.a. In diesem Kontext schlägt das sympathische Projekt „Tatorte-Design braucht Täter“ noch einmal zu und inszeniert zum dritten Mal ausgewählte Designobjekte in den Kulissen des „Fake“-Filmfundus.
Das Programm wird durch Ausstellungen und Kulturshows internationaler Kulturinstitute und Museen wie das Istituto Italiano die Cultura, das Museum Ludwig mit den Ausstellungen von Franz West und Leni Hoffmann, das Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln mit der zu den PASSAGEN eröffneten Ausstellung „Montags beim Papst“ ergänzt.
A&W-Designer des Jahres 2010“ wird das schwedische Designerinnenteam FRONT. Der Preis, der zum 14. Mal von der renommierten Zeitschrift "Architektur&Wohnen" vergeben und seit 2009 von Audi gesponsert wird, ist mit der Finanzierung der von den Preisträgern inszenierten Ausstellung im Foyer und „Jahrhundertsaal“ des Gerling-Quartiers dotiert. Seit 1997 haben die Ausstellungen des A&W-Designer des Jahres immer wieder für Aufsehen gesorgt, wie die regelrecht zum Kult gewordenen Shows von Alfredo Häberli 2009 im Kölnischen Kunstverein, die Inszenierung von Gaetano Pesce in der Christuskirche 2006 und die spektakuläre Ausstellung von Paola Navone in der Halle 11 im Rheinauhafen.Nachhaltigkeit und „grünes“ Design ist ein Thema bei: den Entwürfen von Oliver Schübbe präsentiert in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Museum MARTa Herford im concept room der DESIGNERS FAIR, ökoRausch Living in der Design Zone Ehrenfeld, Balloni und vielen anderen mehrDie Ausstellungsreihe „Dornbracht Edges“ in der Factory / Meiré und Meiré gehört seit einigen Jahren mit zu den Highlights der PASSAGEN. 2010 realisiert die Gruppe Interpalazzo in diesem Rahmen die Installation „Revolving Realities“. Ebenfalls in der Factory die neuen textilen Fliesenkollektionen „scale“ und „free scale“ von Hadi Teherani für Vorwerk und die Präsentation von Siedle.
Ein Schwerpunkt der kommenden PASSAGEN ist wieder das Thema Küchen: die Kollektion „Starck by Warendorf“ in zwei Kölner Showrooms von Miele-Warendorf, QuadArt zusammen mit Barazza, allmilmö und Gaggenau, berbel bei SieMatic sowie IB Möbelwerkstätten bei Chrisbel. Boffi überrascht mit der Installation des Designers Patrick Nadeau „Rainforest“ im Kölner Store. Darüber hinaus sind auch in diesem Jahr zahlreiche nationale und internationale Hersteller und Planer dabei: bulthaup Köln, Jaksch Küchentechnik, Kambium Küchen + Einrichtungen, KitchenAid, Paxmann, Varia Küchen-Loft, LEICHT, cucina Köln, Quooker, Sub-Zero, DuPont™Corian, Vola, Wolf, Stadler, Dornbracht, poggenpohl.

PASSAGEN – Interior Design Week Köln

An exhibition event focusing on current trends in design – particularly interior design. The exhibitors are institutions and museums, including Museum Ludwig and the
Museum of
Applied Art , universities, design offices, initiatives, showrooms, galleries, networks, furniture stores and international manufacturers.
PASSAGEN 2010, fresh as never before and firmly anchored in the cultural landscape, is opening the international design season with projects and presentations by the crème de la crème of the international designer scene – and is again unleashing the entire power of its activists in the design headquarters Cologne. Whether classic soloists or young networks, universities, newcomers, institutions, architects, the media or agents: They are all neighbors for a week; densely-strung pearls on a design route through
Cologne ’s inner city – and since recently in the Ehrenfeld and Mülheim districts.
PASSAGEN 2010 is a design symposium that tackles the topic “Context:Design.” It presents design “live” and 1-to-1 in an interplay with architecture. It addresses the reciprocal effects of art and design, such as in the exhibition at Museum Ludwig by Franz West, to whom we owe this year’s PASSAGEN cover. It includes the issue of social demands on design – particularly the topics sustainability and ecology, as well as urbanism and aesthetics. And it plays up the theme pop culture/design culture with its own music program, the Cologne Music Week. The relationship between design and political work is also moving to the forefront, as can be seen in the project at the DQE-Halle in Ehrenfeld. The new project “Design Quartier Ehrenfeld,” a European Union development project, strengthens the innovative character of the international design city
Cologne . Also exemplary in this respect: the exhibitions of the 3rd Design Route Ehrenfeld and the 2nd edition of the new trade fair DESIGNERS FAIR which, after an exceptionally successful start, has now expanded to include over 60 young international designers and projects. Here, as at many other venues, PASSAGEN opens with the previews on Monday, January 18, 2010.

Cologne furniture store pesch wohnen, with its rich tradition, is presenting itself as a construction site. Right off the Ring are: Auktionshaus W.G. The new trade fair DESIGNERS FAIR is expanding on its 2009 success and is again presenting itself in the RheinTriadem building with over 65 exhibitors from the young international design scene. New at DESIGNERS FAIR are the “concept rooms” that particularly serve design networks as a new exhibition forum. Also on hand for the second year: the project “Highway” – which is not only the design and concept shops MyZoo and 22birds, but also an entire street with exhibitions, installations and activities. The Design Route Ehrenfeld has evolved with its 3rd edition. Two “hotspots” have now established themselves: On the one side, the former industrial area Heliosstrasse/Lichtstrasse with events in the new Design Quartier Ehrenfeld exhibition hall; installations at the Cologne Factory/Meiré und Meiré; exhibitions at the Vulkan complex at dyson, Material ConneXion and eco; exhibitions at Jack in the Box and at ecosign, the Academy for Design; as well as workshops at JAS e.V. On the other side, there’s the newly-established district around Körnerstrasse with numerous exhibitions by young labels and startups, design offices, studios, etc. In this context, the appealing project “Tatorte-Design braucht Täter” (“Crime Scenes – Design Needs Perpetrators”) is striking again and staging for the 3rd time selected design objects against the backdrop of the “Fake” film-set warehouse space.
The program of events is being complemented by exhibitions and culture shows by international cultural institutions and museums, such as Istituto Italiano die Cultura, Museum Ludwig with the exhibitions by Franz West and Leni Hoffmann, and the Museum of Applied Art with the exhibition “Montags beim Papst” (“Mondays with the Pope”) which opens during PASSAGEN.
“A&W Designer of the Year 2010” will be the Swedish designer team FRONT. The award, being presented for the 14th time by the renowned magazine Architektur&Wohnen – and which has been sponsored by Audi since 2009 – includes the financing of the exhibition designed by the winners in the foyer and “Jahrhundertsaal” hall of the Gerling company. Since 1997, the A&W Designer of the Year exhibitions have been causing a stir and have attained cult status – like the one by Alfredo Häberli at the Kölnischer Kunstverein in 2001, the one by Gaetano Pesce at the Christuskirche church in 2006, and the spectacular exhibition by Paola Navone in Hall 11 at the Rheinauhafen harbor area.
Sustainability and “green” design is the theme: in the designs by Oliver Schübbe, being presented in cooperation with Museum MARTa Herford in a concept room at DESIGNERS FAIR; at ökoRausch Living in the Design Zone Ehrenfeld; at Balloni and at many other exhibitions.
The exhibition series “Dornbracht Edges” at the Factory / Meiré und Meiré has been a PASSAGEN highlight for many years. Within this framework, the group Interpalazzo is exhibiting the installation “Revolving Realities” in 2010.
