MAKK features with this comprehensive exhibition the work of one of Germany’s most important new-generation designers. The solo exhibition provides a detailed view into the workshop of Munich-based designer Stefan Diez, showing his design approach and explaining key moments in the development processes of furniture, luminaires, accessories and other everyday products.

A consistent and often radical search for new ways is characteristic of Diez’s work. His perspective goes beyond conventional approaches in design, resulting in surprising solutions. A chair constructed like a car body, LED luminaires whose glass body serves as light conductor, wafer-thin Japanese porcelain for tableware or a shelving system that becomes a space-creating structure: these are just a few examples from the designer’s extensive and extraordinary portfolio. In the MAKK, the products are presented in individual cells, joined up to form an overall spatial exhibition architecture and providing insights into the key moments of technical and construction- or concept-related development processes.

This comprehensive retrospective spans the last 15 years and showcases international award-winning projects. In addition to luminaires, furniture and everyday objects that Stefan Diez designed for manufacturers like e15, Thonet, Hay, Wilkhahn and emu, the exhibition also features ongoing projects such as the Guise luminaire for Vibia, the Bandit table for e15 or the D1/D2 chairs for Wagner. A special section of the show is dedicated to ‘invisible’ projects that have never gone into production.
